Hi Pam!

No worries. :) Questions like yours are always welcome. Ever since med school, We've always been reminded by our teachers that a patient knows more about his/her body than we, as doctors, would. You'd know it if what you have is just a simple case of the flu or if it's something else. In which case, you'd probably seek medical attention.

From what you just said, it seems like what you had the last time you felt this way was an upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) that was probably bacterial. That was why you were given Azith (azithromycin), an antibiotic that works well for URTI and LRTI (lower respiratory tract infection). So if you think that your feeling exactly the same way as last time, then that would probably be it. Your congested nose and aching ear supports that probability.

However, there are a lot of causes for nausea and vomiting in the morning. Nausea gravidarum (morning sickness) for one could cause you to feel dizzy and nauseous in the morning. It usually lasts for around 14-16 weeks. It wouldn't hurt to double check and take a pregnancy test. They're easily done and kits are available over the counter at most drugstores.

Regardless of the cause, be sure to try and replace whatever fluids you lost when you vomit. Wait for your nausea to pass a bit and as soon as you can take sips of water or if that doesn't sit well, orange juice. Sturgeron (cinnarizine 25mg) works well against dizziness and nausea. You could try taking that if you want. However, if your symptoms still persists, I'd advise seeing a doctor there. You might need to go through a physical exam and a couple of lab tests to come up with a sound solution to your problem.

I really hope this helps. Do let me know if it works out. :)

hi Dr. Gim,

I have a question for you. Well, i think it sounds more of a consultation. :D

The thing is, I moved to a new city and I don't know any good doctors here that I could trust!

Anyway, I just need to confirm if my hunches are right.

I have been having nausea for 2 weeks now for no obvious reasons. I sometimes vomit but nothing comes out except saliva. I have no stomach pains or whatever. I've lost appetite because of that and lost a little weight too. It usually occurs in the morning and it gets better in the afternoon and evening.

Last time I had this, Dr. Cabrera told me it was my sinusitis and prescribed nasal spray, decongestant and an anti-biotic, Azyth. It did wonders. Now that I am away from home, I couldn't be sure what to do. I couldn't buy the Azyth because I'm not so sure what's wrong with me.

But I'm pretty sure my nose is congested and it begins to hurt my ear. Could that be it? When I wake up in the morning I have a tingling feeling at the back of my head and that's when I begin to be nauseous.

I'm sorry I have to ask this way. PLease let me know.
