Daylight Savings Time 2012

Posted on 11 March 2012 by Flisha

It’s March 11, 2012. Time change for those living in countries who practice !

daylightsavingtime

At 2am this morning, clocks turned forward one hour. So, people around the world just lost an hour of sleep.

But don’t worry, come November 4, 2012, you will get it back because the clock will turn back one hour on that day.

Good thing I live in the Philippines, the clocks churns predictably on whether it’s spring or fall.

But I still have to keep up with this change because in my work, we support global clients. So when I setup meetings, I need to know the time in EST or else I might be agreeing to the wrong time!

New iPad 3

Posted on 11 March 2012 by Flisha

So, the 3, or as it is officially known, “the new ” (is Steve Jobs rolling over his grave at the stupidity of this title or what?), has just been released.

the-new-ipad-ipad-3

One of the highly touted features of the new iPad 3 is its 4G feature. Unfortunately, this will only work on AT&T’s network, so even if Smart Philippines can support 4G, the new iPad 3 won’t run on it anyway.

Aside from this useless feature (for the rest of the world anyway), the other 2 reasons to buy the new iPad would be its higher resolution and its new camera. iPad 2 has a display resolution of 1024×768. The resolution of the new iPad is 2048×1536. iPad 2 has a shitty camera, the new iPad has a camera similar to the iPhone 4 (five-megapixel sensor and captures 1080p video).

And… that’s it. Kind of a letdown, really. I mean, everyone expected the new camera and better resolution. So, there isn’t anything else they wanted to add? Not even a full Siri made it to the new iPad.

So. If you already have the iPad 2, I would not advise you to upgrade unless you want to use your iPad to take great photos. And really, you aren’t, because holding up a giant tablet to take a photo in public is kinda embarrassing, isn’t it?

But if you don’t have an iPad yet then by all means get the new iPad since it takes over the old price of iPad 2 so there’s nothing to lose – if you were planning to buy an iPad anyway. But if you want to save some bucks, get the iPad 2 instead which by now is totes cheaper starting at $400.

Ice Cream Summer

Posted on 09 March 2012 by Flisha

Someday I am going to need actual pool supplies to cope with the intense heat every summer, but for now I’m hiding out inside the house and eating Magnum ice cream from Selecta.

It’s the new Selecta ice cream touted to be really rich and creamy but I’m sorry, it tastes just like any other pinipig ice cream. I think it’s all hype. And I really don’t like the pinipig format, because once there’s a crack in the outer shell, the ice cream just starts melting and running down your hand. It’s messy!!!!

I bought two – one was the almond and one the original. I like the almond a bit better but yeah, I still prefer my plain Vanilla pint over the pinipig.

Good thing I bought a Vanilla pint too!! Hahah. So actually I am coping with the summer heat by eating loads of ice cream. Yum!!!

The Perfect Chicken

Posted on 09 March 2012 by Flisha

I’ve got a table at home that I keep moving around from room to room. I’m beginning to think I should attach a pair of caster wheels to it.

It’s a table tray, and speaking of tables, last night our dinner table held a scrumptious meal. Gim and I finally perfected the fried chicken!!! Well, ok, Gim did, and I savored it.

It started a few days ago when Gim was left to his own devices at home because I was too busy at work to join him for dinner. He decided to make hainanese chicken which I hate (so he can only make it when I’m not sharing). He seasoned the chicken, then boiled it until all the water evaporated and it was just the soft seasoned chicken broiling in its own juices. It was done but then he decided it looked perfect for frying so he deep-fried it for a few seconds, and it came out perfect!!! Perfect golden outside, perfectly cooked and juicy inside!!!

Of course he texted me and made me so jealous that I decided he HAD to share it with me, so last night we had a great dinner of part fried chicken and part hainanese. And it was delicious!!!

Milestones

Posted on 09 March 2012 by Flisha

My bf shared to me the other day that he wanted to learn guitar. Maybe I should spring for a Peavey Amps then, huh?

But I’ve got more pressing worries these next few months. Firstly, my youngest sister is graduating from college. Wow, how the years go by! I’m turning 30 and she’s no longer a baby. So there, we’re finally all out of school and I know this must be a huge sigh of relief for my mother who has been raising us by herself for the last 10 years or so. So both of them deserve a reward. I wonder what I am going to get them???

And then I get a breather to save in April, but come May I’ve got a friend who’s getting married so I’ve got to find a gift, plus get myself something nice to wear. Yikes. I think I’m more afraid of the cost of my dress than the cost of her gift, hahaha!

Weddings and graduations, coming-of-ages and turning generations. Lots of milestones this year.

Of Sense and Sight

Posted on 27 February 2012 by Flisha

I hope I’m not due for reading glasses yet. But sometimes it’s hard to focus on the words that are right in front of me.

What I have right now is myopia. I’m near-sighted. That actually means I can see better up close than far away. If that goes away too, I don’t know what I am going to do!!!

Currently I am seriously thinking of getting LASIK, it’s a surgery to correct eye vision. It’s said to be quick and painless, but still it scares me that some machine is getting close to me and cutting away part of my eye. I think losing my sense of sight would be the second worst thing (after sense of touch). Think of losing your ability to hear, or taste, or smell… doesn’t compare to losing your ability to see, right?

Anyway, what this all means is that I have to think more about it. In the meantime, I hope my not being able to focus is just because of my contact lenses moving around on my eye, and not my failing ability to see.

Looking at Cuffs

Posted on 26 February 2012 by Flisha

I must admit, I have never seen anyone personally wear cufflinks before, never mind personalized cufflinks. Or perhaps I just haven’t noticed, because it’s more of a guy thing.

But they are quite fashionable! And if I wore cuffs I might be tempted to try them out. However I don’t. My office wardrobe is mostly composed of black nondescript tank tops and plain knitted cover-ups. They’re loose and comfortable and that’s how I like it. The only time I wear long sleeves is when there’s an important client visiting the office – which is rare. And none of my clothes have cuffs.

The one person who does wear a lot of sleeves is my boyfriend. Not that he needs to but I convinced him that t-shirts are much too juvenile for us now, and he looks way more handsome in suits or starched polo shirts. Which is true.

So maybe I should buy him some cufflinks for his cuffs?

These look good, right?

Taylor Swift Hunger Games Lyrics

Posted on 15 February 2012 by Flisha

Here are the lyrics to ’s “Safe and Sound” single off the soundtrack. Beautiful and haunting, very appropriate for The . I like it very much.

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I’ll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, Don’t leave me here alone
But all that’s dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound

Don’t you dare look out your window

Darling, everything’s on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music’s gone
Gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound

Just close your eyes
You’ll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I’ll be safe and sound…

Taylor Swift Hunger Games Song

Posted on 15 February 2012 by Flisha

has two songs for The soundtrack, and the first one is entitled “Safe and Sound”.

Here is the MTV for the Taylor Swift Hunger Games song.

Apparently Taylor is a fan of The Hunger Games. The song is a refreshing new direction for Taylor Swift and I think her voice is more suited to these whimsical, soft folk music tones rather country/pop.

The writer of Safe and Sound are Taylor Swift, Joy Williams, John Paul White, T Bone Burnett.
