Madonna’s Halftime Show on Super Bowl XLVI

Can I just say, WOW! Madonna killed it on her halftime show in the 46th Superbowl. I love that she performed Vogue and Like a Prayer and some snippets here and there of the songs that made her the icon that she is now. Those songs are gold.

She introduced some new collaborations too. Overall I liked her setlist. But I LOVED the set and the dancing and the performance! Here, watch it yourself!

I love the opening shot! Men in golden gladiator attire – by the dozens!!! Oh yeah!!!

It’s like a fleet on men! And the stage!!! What a production huh?

Her first song is Vogue! I love how she loves to treat her men like slaves, sitting on them, making them wear atrocious clothing, haha! She should have performed Human Nature too.

I was amazed by the set. They super maximized the field!! I’d have loved to be there in person to see the field light up with these amazing graphics.

Her next song is Music, and she stumbles for a bit. Good thing she didn’t fall!! Dancing on the bleachers looks scary to me!!

Then there is this guy who balances on a string and does crazy jumps on it!! Wow! I wonder who he is?!? Is he a gymnast? Stuntman? That part was cool!

Next she performs with these two guys called LMFAO. I haven’t heard of them before this, but the song Shuffling is catchy.

She also performs with Nicki Minaj and MIA, and I found out it’s actually a new song Madonna has out called “Give Me All Your Love”. Wow, lucky girls.

Lastly, she performs “Like a Virgin” with – so random – CEELO! First look at this shot. Isn’t it gorgeous!!! Yeah, they got the dancers all dressed up like a choir – this after Madonna danced with cheerleaders and half-naked gladiators. Hahaha I love how she loves to mix up religion with scandal.

Here she is with Ceelo, who I’m not sure what’s he’s supposed to be here. Preacher? Backup singer? Dancer?

I’m glad Madonna didn’t wear any skimpy outfits. She’s aging well. Don’t hate on her and say it’s the botox and the surgeries. Hey if one my day my looks start to fail and I can afford it, I’ll do the same thing. But I think she really just takes good care of herself, eating healthy and doing yoga and Pilates and being a good mother to her kids. Being happy makes her beautiful.

I can see why she’s a superstar.

Korean Adele Park Ji Min

Can Park Ji Min, dubbed as South Korea’s “Adele”, sound exactly the same as Adele?

You may be surprised. Listen to her rendition of “Rolling in the Deep” below.

I would have thought her Korean accent would affect the way she sang but, wow, looks like she memorized every note and nuance of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”! Well done!

Remove Facebook Timeline

Facebook recently rolled out Facebook Timeline and made it the default profile for all users. Understandably a lot of people have switched from the old profile to the new one, but I am betting some of you are regretting this switch.

Lashes

I’m looking for eyelash growth products reviews. I kind of want to try it out.

Why? Well, the things Gim tells me about his work… He works as an ear-nose-throat surgery resident. Basically, rhinoplasty and facelifts and cheek implants and dimple surgery and cleft chin surgery and yes, eyelash implant surgery, are in his domain. So I got interested. Since he told me that it’s such a common thing to prettify one’s face these days. Even some of the residents in his team have already had themselves prettified.

I’m not saying I’m not happy with my face. I do love my face. Haha. Not to be narcissistic but it’s a very fine looking face. It’s just my eyelashes, I wish they were longer. My eyelashes are weird in that they don’t curve upwards but curve downwards so my lashes kinda cover my eyes. Bummer, huh? Gim says there is some soft of procedure to grow them out and make they curve upwards.

Why don’t I just try a lash curler? Yeah, tried those. Lasted only five minutes before they went back to normal!

Let me do a bit more reading before I decide on the next best thing…

Getting a TV?

Gim and I were malling earlier and watched some trade show displays. It reminded me of some things I’ve wanted to buy for some time.

One is a 32-inch TV. I’ve wanted to buy that for quite a time but there are things to consider. One is that I’m living in a rented space, and it’s not exactly easy to wall mount a television set. I’d have to consider that I would be moving it after a few months. Another thing is that if I get a TV, I also need to get cable subscription. And there is usually a lock in period of about a year. That means I would have to commit to staying in my place for at least a year more, which at this point, is not really a commitment I would like to make. Lastly, will this TV be really useful for me and Gim? Gim is often out of the house so he would hardly use it, while I am so content already with my laptop that I’m not sure I would use it much either.

Hmm… maybe the moment isn’t right for a TV. But it will be, someday.

Finances

Talking with my friends some days ago, I’ve realized maybe I need mortgage life insurance.

It’s never entered my mind to buy stocks or do time-deposits… I guess my excuse has always been that, well, I need the money I make. I don’t exactly have anything much to save. But then here are my friends who now have lots in their name, stocks, bonds, they’ve got insurance or at least savings in the bank. And it’s leaving me feeling quite vulnerable.

I think it’s about time I spoke to a wealth manager and decided to start making investments. At least 20% of your salary should go into savings, so they say. I just need to learn more about finances.

Weather Concerns

Brr!! It is cold right now. I think I need a rheem heat pump in my bedroom!

Well it’s not exactly due to the changing weather. It’s more of my boyfriend’s obsession with using the airconditioner! One difference I’ve realized is that women are generally colder than men. Okay maybe I’m generalizing. Fine, *I* often feel colder than *him*.

When I lay on the bed and sleep, I prefer just a fan to cool me off. Anything more and I can’t go to sleep. He, meanwhile, needs the aircon at its strongest, otherwise he sweats and can’t sleep. As you can see, we have trouble agreeing on the perfect temperature.

In the future, I’ve told him, we are going to definitely sleep in separate rooms! Or else he has to learn how to sleep in a WARM bed!!!

Need a Vacay

After the ordeal of the last few days, I don’t think I need any opiate detox treatment. What I DO need is some stress detox! I need a vacation!!!

And since it’s cold these days, all I can think of is going to Baguio!! I’d like to pick some strawberries and have some ube jam and stroll along Burnham Park… just maybe a day in Baguio would be great!! And then bring home lots of good food.

Which is exactly the opposite of what my friend Jeff wanted to go there for. He wanted to go to a bar and drink and smoke… Okay. I think he has been Manila-ized already!!!

So, I am not sure who I am going with. It’s probably not going to be Gim because he is too busy. But for sure, someone. It’s cold! I want to go to Baguio!

Ballerina Box

I hope you had your holiday gift baskets delivered in time for the holiday season last year. I read a lot of horror stories about packages that were delivered too late for Christmas, or gifts that never made it to the receiver at all, and a whole lot of broken hearts all in all.

A sweet story I read was about a little girl, all she ever wanted for Christmas was a ballerina music box. You know, you open it up and there’s one or two ballerinas inside, and a floor mirror, and you put the ballerinas on the magnetized mirror and they dance around while the music plays… Anyway, her mom ordered one for her but it was delivered to the wrong address, and the horrible people accepted it!! So she sent in a postcard to this popular website Post Secret and instantly a very kindhearted samaritan decided to contact Post Secret to send another ballerina box to the little girl. And the little girl got it, just in time for Christmas.

Sweet, huh?!?

I had a music box like that when I was a child. It’s one of the few toys that I remember well, and how I loved it. I hope I will remember to buy something like that for my future babies too.

Missing Bastian

I can’t believe why riding helmets cost so much. When Gim and I went home last month, we found our old helmets really too dirty to wear anymore, having been left gathering dust for more than half a year already.

We wanted to buy new ones but they were upwards of a thousand pesos. So not worth it, especially as we were only going to use them for a week. So we ended up using regular helmets – you know – the ones carpenters wear. Hahaha. We just took it real careful on the streets to make sure we didn’t end up NEEDING those helmets, because I sure don’t know how well they’d hold up in an accident.

Good thing the one week we had went without incident. One week of use for our trusty old motorcycle Sebastian, after leaving him rusting for 6 months. We didn’t want to do that again, so we left Bastian with Gim’s brothers, in the hope that he will used every so often, and also that we’ll be able to sell him off to a more deserving owner.

But what to use next time we go home? I guess we’ll have to content ourselves with public transportation!

New Year Exercise!

So I think I need to get myself a yoga mat! One of my new year’s resolutions is to get healthy! I am serious!!!!

So serious that I got myself a gym membership. Tee hee. Okay so I didn’t get a NEW one, I just saved someone else from her own membership. That means I got online, found someone who no longer wanted to pay gym fees but still had to since she was under contract and so was willing to shoulder the transfer fee, met her at her gym branch, and closed the transaction! Simple! I can’t believe how simple it was. And I did not have to pay any admin or first-timer or whatever fees, I just started paying the monthly bills which was a bit steep but I’m willing to pay, maybe it will motivate me more! Hahaha. Gosh I do hope.

Okay, so, so far in January I have gone to the gym a total of… ONE TIME! Hahaha. Okay so I’m not off to the best start. But to be fair, I *am* pretty busy during the first week of every month since it’s the most hectic time at work completing all the monthly reports, and during the second week I got food poisoning.

I’ve still got two more months to make up, right??? Wish me luck!!!

Retail Fun

So, did you all enjoy the Retail System the last month? Sales all over due to the holiday rush!!

But guess what’s the best part? There’s even MORE sales after! Yes! I went to the malls early this week and the sales were humongous. Some are being called post-holiday sales, and then others end-of-season sales. Shoes and Slippers being sold up to 70% off and a lot of buy one, take one deals on bags and clothes. Loved it!!!

I didn’t actually buy much for myself last month. But this month I splurged on a Celine bag. Yep, hehe. I was due for a bag change. Last year it was a custom design faux alligator skin green laptop bag, this time it’s a super pretty with zippers, baubles and belts type of bag.

But all this retail therapy isn’t good for my credit card! I received my salary yesterday, and 35% of it went to paying off my credit card debts! *CRY*

Next month is going to be even worse with all the stuff I bought this month… oh well.

Glad For Today

I had the absolute WORST day yesterday. I definitely need a family all inclusive resort vacation after this.

Basically, my boyfriend and I had some steak and pasta for dinner last night. All went well, we enjoyed the food and then got ready for sleep. While he was able to fruitfully get some sleep, my tummy was feeling not so well. Though I was able to keep myself from throwing up for a few hours, by morning I couldn’t anymore and wretched all over the sink.

I vomited two more times and had diarrhea about 3 times in the course of one day. And I could not eat anything at all. It was that bad. At times I did not think my body could give up any more food, it did. And during the last few times, it gave up only air and water, which was horrible.

Up to now I am still wondering what it was that gave me and my boyfriend food poisoning. Yes, my boyfriend had it worse since he experienced his symptoms when he was already at work and not being able to take any leave. We think it was probably the cream of mushroom soup, since the rest were just standard food we usually eat.

So glad I’m past it. I was able to eat now, and haven’t felt like vomiting. That’s good, right?

Laptop Woes

I so need a Howard-Medical.com computer cabinet for my place in Manila. I don’t have a desktop though, I have a laptop, but laptops are actually more high maintenance than desktops. Especially with regards to keeping them clean and heat-free.

Lately, my laptop keeps on making such a loud sound. My officemate likened it to an airplane taking off. LOL!

What I need is a constant place to put my laptop on, with good ventilation (for the laptop not me) and where I can sit comfortably. Because if I actually placed my laptop on my lap, I’d burn my thighs off!

But really, I’d love to have a new laptop. Because this one is so used up already. I can’t close it because the lid is breaking up into two parts. I just hope it works well enough until the first two weeks of January are up, since those are the most hectic ones at work.

Signal Woes

The Globe network is so bad here in my hometown of Zamboanga! Or maybe not exactly the entire city but just my neighborhood. So bad I’m even thinking of getting a wilson booster so I won’t miss or drop calls.

When I am inside my room, the signal indicator on my phone actually disappears! Yes! No signal whatsoever. Whenever I want to call my boyfriend I have to go outside in the yard, ugh, bummer! I get no privacy at all. And when I do get a signal I have to make sure NOT TO MOVE from my location or I could lose the signal.

And you know choppy it gets when the signal is low. I keep having to say, “What? Can you repeat what you said??”. Frustrating to say the least.

Remind me to buy a Smart prepaid kit to use whenever I go home!

Trials of Nursing

My sister is on her fourth year of college, about to graduate the course of Nursing. I hope there’s going to be a good amount of Healthcare Support Jobs next year, since most nurses I know are actually either working for free or working for a very meager salary.

In fact, there is even a bill in the country banning hospitals from making nurses pay – yes pay to work! This was just recently approved. Such is the surplus of nurses in my country that some of them resort to paying hospitals just to be able to get some work experience after college. The need for work experience is necessary before they will be accepted in institutions abroad.

Even during my college years (around 10 years ago), I knew it was a bad idea to get into the Nursing profession. Sure, the prospect of working abroad is exciting and definitely financially rewarding, but with the number of people taking up the course, the chance of actually finding work was the biggest hindrance. I’m glad I took up Computer Science. I don’t have to leave my country just to be able to find work.

Anyway, here’s hoping my sister won’t have any trouble getting work. Fingers crossed!

Earrings!

Ever since I got my ears pierced a month ago, I’m no longer into necklaces or steel bracelets. My new thing is earrings!

My favorites are sparkly dangling earrings. Because why wear small uninteresting pieces when you went through all the trouble of piercing yourself to show off, right? The only time I wore studs was when I first got pierced, because they were the default earrings. And I have another pair of studs for sleeping just so my ear holes won’t close up. Since they very easily close up too. One time, I took off my earrings to take a bath, and forgot to put them back on. I dozed for about 4 hours and when I woke up, my ear holes had partially closed!! I had to pierce through a thin sheet of skin before my earrings went all the way through. Needless to say, ouch!!!

One thing I noticed about buying earrings. Whenever I bring them to the counter, the cashier (who for some reason in the Philippines is always a woman) always stops to stare longingly at my purchase before ringing it in. No fail! One time I bought these gold/diamond dangling earrings, really long up to my shoulders, the cashier took one look at it, even took it out of its casing, and held it up against her ears and looked at herself in the mirror. LOL!!! I was horrified she might start to actually put it on!!! But she didn’t, thank goodness. Haha.

Wishing for Baguio

This time of the year is a good time to visit Baguio. It’s the summer capital of the Philippines so imagine how cold it must be there now. It’s not cold enough to need snowboard jackets but thick clothes is a must.

Things I’d like to do there:
1. Pick strawberries
2. Buy jams (ube and strawberry!)
3. Visit Camp John Hay
4. Buy knitted clothes
5. Hold hands with Gim while cuddling in the cold weather!

A friend of mine mentioned that eating strawberries with salt was good. Hmm, I’ve never tried that combo but suddenly I have an urge to do so! I hope I can go to Baguio with a few friends early next year.

Healing Stones

I’m a bad giver like I said a few posts ago. I didn’t have time to do any shopping in Manila, so when I came home to Zamboanga I decided to pass by Lantaka to buy a few trinkets as gifts. I remembered the previous year, there were a lot of cute pearly baubles that were being sold very cheaply. Unfortunately, this time around the wares weren’t that interesting.

I ended up buying some smooth marble-like stones. The seller called them “healing stones”. They were very pretty, smooth to the touch but sparkly and she was selling them at 3 for 100. I don’t know what came over me, but I decided to buy a dozen so I ended up finishing almost all of her stones and forked over Php400! LOL. She was so happy!! She thanked the gods, thanked us, thanked her lucky stars. Hahaha. It was funny how happy she was.

I ended up not giving any of my stones away. It seemed a weird gift, in hindsight. I think I’ll just keep them around. Maybe the more I have, the more healing power I will get. LOL.

Bottomline, I’m just glad that the seller got a sale that day. I hope she and her family had a good Christmas.

The Things You Learn…

I’m not fond of watches, a Bulova watch to me is same as any other. So it was surprising to know that guys actually like watches!

I found this out when an officemate of mine urged me to buy a watch for my boyfriend as a gift. I asked him, “Would you really like a watch for yourself on your special day?” and his answer was an honest “Yeah!!”.

I asked my boyfriend too, well, later on, if he liked receiving or buying watches. And he replied in the affirmative too.

And here I thought that it was just one of those things you buy a guy if you don’t know what to buy for him!! My mother once bought my boyfriend an expensive watch from Hong Kong and I just dismissed it as a random gift. But he was so happy when he got it, and it’s his favorite watch to wear on formal occasions up to now. So I guess mothers know best after all! Hahah.
