Remove Facebook Timeline

Posted on 22 January 2012 by Flisha

recently rolled out Timeline and made it the default profile for all users. Understandably a lot of people have switched from the old profile to the new one, but I am betting some of you are regretting this switch.

If you want to go back to using the old profile, you can try the tutorial below.

Good luck!

Last Airbender sucks???

Last Airbender sucks???

Posted on 02 July 2010 by Gim

Ever since I saw the trailer a few months ago, I just couldn’t stop looking forward to watching The Last Air Bender, a movie adaptation from the popular Nickelodeon cartoon series directed by M. Night Shyamalan (Just as I couldn’t stop drooling over those massage tables I saw the other night at the local ‘mall’).

laST airbender
I think I know why this movie flopped…

I was practically ecstatic when I found out that it would be opening in theaters this week. Then I went online on and saw this:

I don’t think I’ve ever left a theater angry in my entire life. Disappointed? Sure. Frustrated? Absolutely! But never actually ANGRY with the film I just saw. This movie (if one could even call it that) fails on every possible level. THE LAST AIR BENDER

What da eff??? It’s that bad? It couldn’t be! I saw the trailer!!!

So I checked out Rotten Tomatoes and true enough, the reviews confirmed my worst fears.

Consensus: Despite flashy special effects, The Last Airbender squanders the potential of its popular source material on an incomprehensible plot, laughable dialogue, and a joyless sense of detachment.”

I felt my stomach drop a few notches more as I scrolled down several more reviews.

“Stick a fork in M. Night Shyamalan. He’s done as a director of consequence after The Last Airbender. Sad.”

“With a movie this shockingly bad, however, it’s not likely that anyone will be interested in another chapter. So it’s better not to even bother seeing this one.”

“Stilted dialogue, wooden acting, glacial pacing, cheesy special effects, tacky-looking sets, ugly costumes, poorly staged and edited action sequences, all shown in murky, cut-rate 3-D.”

Sigh. I guess I better save my hundred bucks and wait for the DVD.

PS I really really really hope The Hunger Games movie adaptation won’t be this bad.

Who says men can’t give sound, decent advice? Just a little while ago, I found this floating around on :

Most of the women who commented on the photo all expressed amused disgust and feigned anger at the advice given by “John”.  Looking at “John’s” reply, it’s not hard to figure out why (I guess it’s also one of the reasons why we don’t give quick weight loss diets advice). Men like “John” are the reason why women like “Shiela” think we men come from Mars.

I can’t help but try and put a bit of perspective into all this- get to the bottom of why “John” gave this piece of advice. Slices of thought that could have been running through “John’s” mind:

If  “Shiela” knew how to keep her car engine in tip-top shape, knew at least a little bit about cars and more importantly, knew how to fix one when it broke down; then she’d never have had to walk back home to ask for help. And having never done that, she’d never have caught her husband cheating- thus, she’d still have a happy, married life.

Or perhaps we men are just hopelessly dense. :/

E-lection day

E-lection day

Posted on 10 May 2010 by Gim

Today is May 10, 2010. The day my people will elect a new head of state, and in doing so, hopefully end nine years of political, economical, and social rape our incumbent president has so wantonly committed against the country (to the point of capitalizing on social security disability).

Hopefully.

For despite all the promises, the propaganda, the platforms, the plastic smiles and fake hugs; will electing a new leader actually solve the ills besetting my beloved Philippines? Just a little while ago I came across the following thread between several of my friends.

Friend 1 (status message): Here’s hoping for a peaceful and honest elections and a conscientious electorate! Praying for a new President who will be selfless and will have the will to bring about change back home!

Friend 1 (commenting on his own post): Sana sa next na uwi ko, may trabahong mag aantay sa akin na makakapag taguyod sa pamilya ko para di na ako bumalik! Asa ba? :p (I hope that the next time I come home, I’ll have a job waiting for me that is enough to sustain me and my family so I won’t have to come back here. I wish!)

Friend 2: Malay mo naman! Pag ganun uuwi na rin ako! :) (You can never tell. If that’s the case, then I’m definitely coming home!)

Friend 3: Meron (there is). but the pay’s not ever gonna be as good as where you are.

Hayz! (I hope there is. And not just any job that’s enough to feed you three times a day, but a job that could give you a comfortable house, a little entertainment, and savings for the future. Sigh!)

Friend 3: i don’t think whoever’s gonna be the next pres can deliver that. Sadsad sa utang ang Pilipinas (Our country is beset with debts)…it’s only the evat and your remittances that’s keeping it afloat. but it would be a step in the right direction kung ang susunod na pangulo ay sapian talaga ng mabuting espiritu at gawin na finally ang dapat para sa bayan… (I hope the next president will suddenyly have an epiphany and finally do what is right for the country).

Sad but true. I too agree with friend number 3. But still I am hopeful. I am hopeful that whoever sits on the throne after this circus is all over will be someone willing and more importantly- capable of steering my country in the right direction. But in the meantime, I cannot help but relate to a comment I heard one of my profs say during one of our board  review sessions:

“We are the Literati. We don’t really care who
gets to sleep in Malacanang. Those things are beneath us. As long as we
do our bit and make a difference in our communities. Let them picket.
Let them yell themselves hoarse.”

Poor, poor guy in the middle. You have no idea...

So we’re still on kyut-pics-on- week, and guess what, here’s one that made me stop, stare and guffaw (There’s a good bet that the guy in the middle is suffering from adult acne and will soon suffer from a broken heart). This pic just took the word back-stab to a whole new level.

As that guy in the Greenwich commercial says “Nag-level up ka na!” :)

A perfect 10 on the SPLAT Scoring system...

…and maybe even a 3 on the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). I really do hope this guys has mechanical breakdown insurance for that bike. I mean, talk about a wipeout. This is one wipeout tha’s definitely a keeper. One that’s gonna be for posterity.

If you’re wondering what exactly happened here or whether this guy escaped brain injury, I really don’t know too. I just found this pic floating around on and thought that I’d share. But personally, I think it’s obvious what happened next…SPLAT!

Much ado over Fishville, Farmville, or whatever-ville

Much ado over Fishville, Farmville, or whatever-ville

Posted on 20 January 2010 by Gim

Every time I open my account, I never fail to see status updates like this:

What happens when you've got too much time on your hands

To put it simply, I just don’t get it. Why people are so engrossed over farms or fishes or cafes that don’t actually exist in the first place (unlike acne, which is an all too real fact. Better put some tretinoin cream on that) I really don’t know. Some people even go so far as to wake other people up in the middle of the night- in the freaking middle of the night,  just to get them to ‘feed’ their imaginary fishes or ‘water’ their make-believe farms. I mean, come on, they wouldn’t actually die. They’re NOT real to begin with!

I guess sometimes, somehow, that thin, thin line between fantasy and reality blurs in ridiculous ways.

Dell laptop giveaway on Facebook a Hoax

Posted on 19 January 2010 by Gim

That’s right.

If it isn’t already obvious, it’s a hoax.

At least three of my friends have sent me invites to join this group (I should return the favor someday and send them acnefree invites). Now I’m generally wary of adding people as my Facebook friends, let alone join a group. So I clicked on the page and read the group info real carefully. It seemed my suspicions were right. But just to be sure, I Googled the phrase “Dell Laptop Giveaway Facebook” which confirmed my initial guess.

It should’ve been pretty obvious at the onset. The fact that a random group plans to give people around the world a free laptop ’cause “selling it would make us lose more money” should have given a clue that this offer is nothing but BS. I mean, how would selling make you lose money? Duh.

What’e more, to avail of the “free” laptop, you had to copy a javascript provided at the bottom of the page and paste it on the address bar. That instruction alone should have set warning bells ringing. If this was legit, you wouldn’t have to do this. Who knows what malicious code or virus that script could infect your computer with. I guess that’s how they hack into your profile and use it to send messages about how you need money and stuff.

It’s sad though that a lot of people still fall for scams like this. I really do hope that they’d be more discerning in the future.

Alone in the Universe: A really funny song from Jon Lajoie

Alone in the Universe: A really funny song from Jon Lajoie

Posted on 06 January 2010 by Gim

After the highs of fun and laughter, comes the lows of waking up to a world filled with piles of work to do. Leftover work from before the holidays, new work for the new year and even future work; the prospect of normalcy gets most people down (speaking of which, I think I really should get a look at that rv insurance).

With the holiday season officially over, it is not uncommon to find people grumping about being back to reality. Two days ago on , most of my friends had statuses that read: “ *insert name here* is back to work” followed by a sad face icon. Or something like this: ” *insert name here* doesn’t want to go back to *insert place of work here*“. Even I did not escape unscathed from the aftermath of a really, really good vacay. Especially since she’s going back to while I am left here to finish whatever it was that I’ve started. The feeling got to be sooo bad and (thanks to FB) so widespread and mutual that I coined it the Post-Holiday Depression Syndrome or the PHDS.

I am almost (but not totally. I’m still missing her!) over it now. I’m back to teaching and working on my master’s thesis. But for those of you not yet over the holidays and still suffering from PHDS, here’s a really funny music video for you. god knows we can all relate *winks*. hehe.

Restaurant City Cheats and Tips

Restaurant City Cheats and Tips

Posted on 26 December 2009 by Flisha

Restaurant City is a popular . It revolves around the concept of being a restaurant worker, be it a chef, a waiter or even the owner. It is also a social application, it allows the player to invite his/her friends into the game, by having them accept jobs in the restaurant. You can customize your restaurant when you gain profits, by buying decorations, furniture or equipment.

Your Facebook friends can have their own restaurants as well, and you can visit each others’ restaurants. You can even share or trade ingredients and help each other create unique menus.

This game was created by Playfish for Facebook, and here are some tips to help you play better.

Ingredients in Restaurant City

Every day you get a free ingredient. That is, if you log in. So make sure to play Restaurant City once  a day to get your free ingredient. Secondly, answer the quizzes in your inbox. Every day, you get a question that you can opt to answer. If you get the answer correct, you’ll get another free ingredient. And lastly, you get an ingredient when visiting a friend’s restaurant for the first time. So, make a lot of friends on Facebook, get them to join Restaurant City, and you’ll have a steady stream of free ingredients.

Levelling Up in Restaurant City

It’s easy, playing equals levelling up in Restaurant City. Keeping your Restaurant City session open gains you GPs, or gourmet points. These are points for levelling up, so the longer you play, the faster you can level up. If you don’t feel like playing, just don’t log out. You can open another tab to do stuff, just stay inside Restaurant City to get your GPs.

Money

So you need money. Are there any trees around? Try shaking them. Money may not grow on trees but in Restaurant City, money falls off a tree when you shake it. Also, pick up some trash around your place. That’ll get you some dough as well.

Cheats

Haven’t found any, do tell if you have some Restaurant City cheats. :D

Have fun playing Restaurant City! :-)
